1928: Ascends to throne of Shoa

1930: Ascends to imperial throne

1936: Exiled after Italian invasion

In 1931, upon assuming power, Selassie established the first Ethiopian constitution

On June 30, Haile Selassie went to Geneva to seek help from the League of Nations.

Ethiopia became a charter member of the United Nations.

In 1948, Haile Selassie donated a piece of land at Shashamane, 250 km
south of Addis Ababa,
for the use of Blacks from the West Indies.
Numerous Rastafari families settled there and there is
a community there to this day.

Editor's Note: I wonder how much of this crisis is the failure
of the government policies in this regard! It is true that rains
have failed. But, as a nation we should stop blaming rain time
after time. We have to be honest to ourselves as well. Instead
of blaming God for not opening up the sky to pour rains, it is
high time for the EPRDF govt to be inward looking and see
its weakest links. I remember more than a decade ago when
Meles promised for the whole nation to eat "three-times-a-
day" within 10 years period. Without dancing around the
governing party must admit that it failed to keep its words
badly Let alone feeding three times a day, the country is
now on the verge of famine

For the last four days, the resistance against the give-away
of lands continues: on Wednesday at Godebe
(Tach Armachio) the local resistance forces engaged
the Sudanese army in the border area and defeated within
few hour of battle and returned safely to the Ethiopian side
of the border.after that incident the TPLF army began
reprisal offensive against the local resistance and also
defeated miserably. In the course of the engagement a
local man and a TPLF captain Challew Alemu was killed and
buried in the townof Gondar on Friday. TPLF officials and
mercenary cadres blamed the resistance uprising as Eritrean
backed movement. The death of the captain is a big story
in the town of Gondar.
